In this webinar, state tax expert Michael Fleming will review what to do after you have determined where you have a link or connection with a state called Nexus, that what you sell is taxable and your potential exposure is material. The simple answer is to register to collect tax.

However, registrations, contrary to popular belief, are not easy. We see more and more companies registering for the wrong type of tax which can create multiple issues. For example, do you need to register for the sales tax or sellers use tax, in some states this answer changed post wayfair. When can you register as a remote seller? Do you ever need to register for consumer use tax?

And what about past liability? Should you register through a voluntary disclosure agreement (VDA) or a historical registration or is a prospective registration the way to register? When is a managed audit a good strategy? Are certain states more aggressive than others about start dates? What happens if I have inadvertently been collecting tax and I am not registered?

Is registration with the Secretary of the State required? Does sales tax registration create an income tax nexus?
