Who should attend? Everyone

This webinar is the second in our new series of eight webinars. The series is called the Seven Pillars of a Successful Sales Tax Strategy and is a deeper dive into each of the seven pillars addressed in the two-part introductory webinar of the same name.

This second webinar will cover taxability. This is the second pillar of the seven pillars. In our first webinar, we go over nexus. Once you have determined there is nexus, the next step is to determine if what you or your client sells is taxable.

In this webinar, state tax expert Michael Fleming will review some of the basic fundamentals of taxability. He will touch on the taxability of tangible personal property, services, and digital property. He will also go into different factors that can change the taxability of an item from non-taxable to taxable.

Mike will take a little deeper dive into the taxability of shipping and handling, software, SaaS, clothing, and get into the taxability of some specific services.

Mike will also go over the definition of sales price and how it can impact taxability. He will provide some case studies as well as examples and will provide some charts as handouts. The true object test will be discussed and some research dos and don’t will be provided.

This webinar can not possibly address the specific taxability of every product and service in every state, but it is designed to introduce you to basic concepts with some real-life examples to help you develop or build upon your foundation of knowledge.

Key Topics:

Taxability

Tangible Personal Property

Services

True Object Test

Commonly Taxed Services

SaaS

Research Dos and Don’ts

Understanding taxability can sometimes be tricky and unclear. In this session, Michael Fleming will help clear the air with a sound common-sense approach to understanding taxability.

This session is especially of interest to companies and/or their advisors who guide them through the maze of tax changes for multistate sellers.
