This webinar is the fourth in our new series of eight webinars. The series is called the Seven Pillars of a Successful Sales Tax Strategy and is a deeper dive into each of the seven pillars addressed in the two-part introductory webinar of the same name.

This fourth webinar will cover use tax. In this webinar, state tax expert Michael Fleming will explain use tax and provide a brief history and evolution of the term. While there is only one use tax, Mike will approach it as it is often approached today with topics like vendors use, retailers use, sellers use, etc. which all have to do with the collection of tax, and then consumers use which has to do with purchases.

Use tax is often overlooked or misunderstood which is why it is one of the top two reasons for large assessments in audits. Mike will discuss some of the ways to avoid or reduce these types of assessments as well as some of the pitfalls inherent in accounting for use tax.

Mike will go over some real-life examples. He will discuss some of the ways to implement a process including whether technology is the solution, whether it should stay a manual process, or be a mixture of the two.

Key Topics:

Use Tax

History of Use Tax

Vendors Use Tax

Consumer Use Tax

Common Problem Areas

Understanding use tax can sometimes be tricky and unclear. In this session, Michael Fleming will help clear the air with a sound common-sense approach to understanding use tax.

This session is especially of interest to companies and/or their advisors who guide them through the maze of tax changes for multistate sellers.
